In 1998 I made the trip of my life and moved with my family from Belize to Lake Tahoe. Not only was it the trip of my life, but it was the start of a completely new adventure, a life far away from what my family and I had grown accustomed to in Belize. 
The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation welcomes their 10th AmeriCorps Team with a swearing-in ceremony at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-profit Center. During the ceremony, Bill Horn, General Manager of IVGID, read the AmeriCorps Pledge to 15 new AmeriCorps members.

Leaving a legacy to support non-profits. A friend of mine that has enjoyed Lake Tahoe as her home for many years wanted to find a method to support a number of her favorite charities, beyond attending events and purchasing raffle tickets. She was feeling pinched in the current economy but knew that it was even more difficult for the non-profits. 
U.S. students are falling behind in science education. Statistics show students in the United States are far behind students in other countries when it comes to science education. In an effort to reverse this trend, Space Science for Schools was awarded a grant from the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation to support the Youth Science Institute. 
First Lady Dawn Gibbons presents awards. At the recent Nevada Volunteers National Service Awards luncheon, the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation AmeriCorps Program was once again honored with two outstanding awards. 
Then I stopped and thought, if not here, where might they go? Welcome friends - to the many that are familiar with the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation and to those that have yet to experience the pleasure. 
The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation received a second 4-star rating for "exceptional" fiscal management by Charity Navigator. Only 18% of charities rated by America's premier evaluator have consecutively received top ratings. 
Kids with knives may seem scary, but put knives in the hands of the Chop Shop kids and wonderful things happen. 
The Incline Village Community Hospital may not be an attraction that visitors or residents choose to visit. But, as the only emergency medical facility on Lake Tahoe's North Shore, IVCH is a testament to the best Incline Village's has to offer: generosity, foresight and community.
