A wish list of Volunteer Opportunities at the DWR Center

The DWR Center is now home to 16 nonprofit organizations and it always seems like there is an organization planning an activity or event. It is no wonder that people walk into the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center because they want to volunteer. Many of the resident organizations do need volunteers while others do not. But most prospective volunteers also want to know where they will fit best or if there is an organization with a need they are passionate about.

Here is the Volunteer Wish List for DWR Center residents along with mission statements. Agencies that currently do not need volunteers have not been included.


American Red Cross: The Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross provides hope and compassion to individuals when they need it the most – after an earthquake, fire, flood, hurricane or other disaster. In the Incline Office volunteers should stop at the office or call Kevin at 775-298-0131 to learn about American Red Cross volunteer opportunities in Incline.


Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival: Established for the cultural benefit and enjoyment of all residents of and visitors to our region, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival strives to plan, produce and advocate the finest cultural events at Lake Tahoe while educating future generations on the importance of including theater, music and art in their everyday lives. Volunteers are so important to the success of this organization. Now is the time to volunteer for the upcoming summer production. Volunteers are needed to usher and seat guests, at the box office, as greeters, selling merchandise, taking tickets and multiple other tasks. Lake Tahoe Summerfest: A world-class celebration of the arts that enriches the cultural, educational, and economic vitality of the Lake Tahoe Basin. The Lake Tahoe Summerfest quest is to provide extraordinary music, art, theatre, and seminars to local, national, and international audiences. Summerfest needs volunteers for its upcoming summer concerts. Volunteer tasks include some in the office as well as volunteers for concerts and other special events. Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation: Building prosperity through leadership, partnership and philanthropy is the mission of Parasol. Volunteers are needed for the events committee at this time. Project MANA: The mission of Project MANA is to reduce the incidence of hunger and its detrimental effects upon individuals, families, the community and the region. In addition to providing hunger relief, the organization has programs to alleviate the causes of hunger and promote nutrition through education and awareness. Volunteers play a special role in the mission of this organization. Volunteer opportunities exist the food distribution program with several different roles. Volunteers for other roles such as in the office or in the summer months for the community garden and other areas are also needed. SOS Outreach: The mission of the SOS Outreach International program is to inspire youth to make positive decisions for healthy and successful lives through its outdoor adventure and leadership development program. The program located at Lake Tahoe uses volunteers in a variety of events and tasks on both the North and South Shore. Tahoe Family Solutions: Tahoe Family Solutions provides low/no cost services to children and families living along the North Shore of Lake Tahoe with its mission of Building Hope for Children and Families. Volunteers are needed for Tahoe Family Solutions: Homework Help Club – call Leslie at 775-298-0204, Camp Explore – call Sharon at 775-298-0201 and Thrift Store in the Village Center -- call Vicki at 775-833-4414. Tahoe Fund: The Tahoe Fund mission is to improve the extraordinary natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin by building broad support and funding for projects and programs that restore and enhance the Lake for the enjoyment of current and future generations. Tahoe Institute for Natural Science: The Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) is a member-supported nonprofit seeking to advance the natural history, conservation and ecosystem knowledge of the Tahoe region through science, education and outreach. Volunteers are a tremendous help to TINS in the areas of outreach, education, citizen science, fundraising and lots of other tasks. Tahoe Rim Trail Association: The mission of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association is to maintain and enhance the Tahoe Rim Trail system, practice and inspire stewardship and promote access to the beauty of the Lake Tahoe Region. The Tahoe Rim Trail was built by volunteers so volunteers are always welcomed at TRTA. Volunteers do trail work, help at back country camps, lead hikes, serve as ambassadors and do many other tasks as well. Tahoe SAFE Alliance: To reduce the incidence and trauma of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee communities is the mission of Tahoe SAFE Alliance. Volunteers are the backbone of Tahoe SAFE Alliance. Many of the opportunities require special training but other volunteer opportunities exist that do not require training.
