Parasol celebrated 17 years of community during its Open House on June 20th at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center. Over 165 people helped celebrate with the highlight of the event being the presentation of Awards.
Parasol recognized staff and board members of the 10 non-profits receiving a $5,000 Community Fund Grant. Grant recipients: Boys & Girls Club of South Lake Tahoe, CASA El Dorado, Lake Tahoe SummerFest, Live Violence Free, Sierra Senior Services, Tahoe Fund, Tahoe Institute for Natural Science, Tahoe Prosperity Center, Tahoe Youth and Family Services and The Sugar Pine Foundation.
Kirk Hardie, Tahoe Institute for Natural Science Co-Executive Director said, “It is great to receive the (Community Fund) Grant, but even better that you sing our agency’s accolades to the community.”
Tahoe Family Solutions received the Agency of the Year Award and a $1,000 grant to the Tahoe Family Solutions Endowment Fund. Parasol recognized the staff and board for their outstanding commitment to the financial sustainability of TFS.
TFS Executive Director, Robin Glasgow said, “We at TFS are heartened to know that in the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation we have a close partner in our drive to deliver affordable mental health care, summer camping experiences and volunteer tutoring to Incline Elementary Students.”
And the last Award, the 2013 Community Philanthropist of the Year Award, was awarded to Robert and Robin Holman. Over the years the Holmans have continued to support many charitable causes throughout the Lake Tahoe region. One of the areas in which they are truly making a difference is in the arts. This past year, through the Holman Family Philanthropies Fund at Parasol, they have purchased a building and created the Holman Arts and Media Center at Sierra Nevada College to be used by both SNC students and the community at large. Look for the center to open soon.
“It’s an honor for Parasol to be able to acknowledge those that work so hard to make our community a better place for everyone,” said Claudia Andersen, CEO of Parasol.
